Even More Tools for Growth

Life is full of twists and turns. How do we sustain faith in God when disappointments enter our lives? Using the Biblical story of Joseph as the base story for this study, participants will look at the personal experiences of dreams received and dreams lost. They will discover how disappointments, loss, and trauma over time wounds the heart and mind. Learning how to reinterpret painful and disappointing events through the lenses of truth and possibilities allows participants to encounter the power of God turning evil into good and discovering for themselves dreams recovered and strength in their own stories.

Before the printed Bible people could only listen to the Bible as it was read. It required a more focused way of listening than we are used to today in our busy, noisy world and hearts. This ancient way of reading the Bible is called Lectio Divina, Latin for “sacred reading”. Rather than quickly reading a passage of Scripture, you intentionally choose to read the Bible slower more contemplatively.

I often describe listening prayer as the other side of prayer that humanity is not very good at, LISTENING. In a nutshell, it is coming to God with a specific question, and waiting on Him to hear His response. This is so important because when we actually hear from God for ourselves, then we KNOW the truth. Listening prayer  always aligns with God’s Word. Listening prayer is not me figuring out and answer. Listening prayer is my heart opening up to HIS heart and encountering him intimately and precisely. And Holy Spirit insures that All of Jesus’ sheep hear His voice, therefore the question isn’t whether we hear, rather, it is whether we have learned to distinguish His voice from the other voices? The great news is that as a baby learns the voice of his mother above all others, we can learn the voice of our God above all others.
